Flattop TOM & His Jump Cats
"Swing Dance Party"
Palamar Records
This group is simply awesome, for
those of you that like big band, swing, boggie-woogie, blues and feel good harp playing,
then you will get off on this CD big time. This is the second one that I have gotten
from Flattop TOM. You get seventeen tunes that range from
boogie-woogie dance to blues. Flattop can play harp styles ranging
from Rod Piazza to James Harman and he does it his way
as Elvis used to say. Flattop became friends with William
Clarke and began to learn about his influences, George
"Harmonica" Smith, Walter Horton, and Sonny
Boy Williamson. This eight-piece combo has the feel of Roomful of
Blues but they are no copy-cats. The name Jump Cats fit to
a tee, this is rockabily, dance jive, West Coast swing, blues, jump, all
combined in one with a touch of ever so kool jazz.
